International Symposium on Existing and Emerging Chemicals in the Environment National Research Center for Environmental Analysis and Measurement, Shanghai (Crowne Plaza Hotel), China March 9th, 2011
Anthropogenic pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides, endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), persistent organic pollutants(POPs), mostly originated from industrial and agricultural activities and wastewater discharge, are speculated to have adverse effects on human health and ecological environment. This symposium organized by National Research Center for Environmental Analysis and Measurement, Sino-Japan Friendship Center for Environmental Protection, and funded by the United Nations University, Japan and Shimadzu Corporation makes efforts to exchange the latest development of multilateral environmental agreement, disseminate the project outcomes, and interact with local researchers and policy makers.
National Research Center for Environmental Analysis and Measurement, directly subordinated to Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, is established in 1984 and mainly focuses on resolving the key problems in the area of environmental analysis and measurements, developing new methodologies and technologies, providing service, consultation and training for environmental analysis and measurements.
The symposium will consist of invited plenary and keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations. The topics cover but not limit to the following areas:
Shanghai is the largest city in China in terms of population and one of the largest urban areas in the world, with over 20 million people in its extended metropolitan area. Located on China‘s central eastern coast at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Today, Shanghai is mainland China's center for commerce and finance, and has been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing economy.
